Conversations with my toddler (series)

Since Michael was born, Victoria has gotten fond of the pacifier trying to imitate her little brother. To get her out of the habit we tell her she was going to lose her teeth if she doesn't stop. So one day she goes...

Victoria: "Mommy, I don't like binkies."

Mommy: "That's good otherwise you'll lose your teeth"

Victoria: "I don't like binkies. I'm going to have only two teeth like the pumpkin"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Victoria: "Mommy you have to get me apple juice"

Mommy: ignores and continues to watch tv

Victoria: repeats request

Mommy: still continues to ignore request

Victoria: "Mommy, when I tell you something you have to listen" (a line I always use when she does not listen to me)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Daddy: "Victoria, go get ready we're going to chuck -e-cheese"

Victoria: "I'm going to chuck-e-cheese myself"

Daddy: "Okay, how are you going to get there?"

Victoria: "I'm going to drive your car"

Daddy: tries to keep from laughing "Do you know where it is?"

Victoria: "Map will show me" (referring to Map from Dora the explorer)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Victoria asks while we were watching Charlie Brown thanksgiving: "Mommy, where did hash brown go?"

Mommy: "What?" (asks confused)

Victoria: "Mommy, where did hash brown go?"

Mommy: realizes who she's referring to "Oh, you mean Charlie Brown?"

The little man of my life

October 27, 2007, that was the date we chose to meet our little guy. My due date was supposedly November 1st but for some reason, this one didn't want to come out. My husband said, "he's smart" (: I on the other hand was very uncomfortable trying to force myself up to go to work everyday and trying to keep up with rounds as much as I can. Good thing I got to convince my doctor I needed an induction. So October 27th it was. This time I was prepared. I took a shower in the morning, packed everything I needed and felt more mentally prepared (sort of) (: It was a slow day at the hospital being a saturday so it was nice and quiet. This time I came totally wearing a different hat. I felt somewhat vulnerable coming in as a patient. I knew I had to totally surrender to whatever was going to come. Nine O'clock, that's when the oxytocin started and so did the contractions. It didn't take long before I asked for pain medication. I remember voices getting distant and feeling groggy a few seconds after I got a shot. It was nice to be pain-free and to get a few zzz's. It didn't take long before the pain came back and I had to either tough it out like I did with my first born or to take advantage of what modern medicine had to offer. Remembering how it was the first time, I took the chance and surrendered myself to an epidural. It really wasn't as bad as I thought and it ended up being the best decision I've ever made. After that, I watched tv through my labor totally pain free. At 4pm, I was 9cm dilated and still with a smile. Ten minutes later, I hear a code called and everybody running to my room. Before I knew it I had oxygen mask on my face and everbody's panic scared me. Apparently, the baby's heart rate went down to the 60's but fortunately recovered quickly which was most likely from the baby's sudden drop. I was fully dilated and ready to push this baby out. Pushing wasn't something I did well with my first born. I remember getting telangiectasias (popped capillaries) on my face because the pressure was all there. This time I was better. I guess it's a learned skill. After an hour of pushing, our little guy finallly came out with an APGAR score of 9 (thank God!). Baby Michael was 8 lbs. 10 oz and 22 1/4 in long. As my Victoria (my 2 1/2 year old) would put it, "Baby Michael popped out of mommy". I wish it was as simple as she puts it (:
